Most natural health products aren't developed by people who've spent two decades inside the pharmaceutical industry. Matt Bowden, managing director of XtraLife Health Sciences, is the exception. Long before Spike Detox existed, his work was in setting up and running a pharmaceutical company, much of it centred on toxicology: the science of working out what a new compound actually does in the body, and how much of it is safe. It's the kind of background that gives a person an unusually clear-eyed view of both worlds, pharmaceutical and natural.
When the pandemic arrived, that background put Matt in a fairly unique position. He wanted to build something for people who, for their own reasons, preferred a natural approach and a well-researched one at that, not a rushed one.
Spike Detox combines a small number of well-studied compounds: quercetin, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), bromelain and thymoquinone from black cumin seed. Early laboratory research out of New South Wales looked at how enzymes like bromelain, combined with NAC, interact with the spike protein structure found on the SARS-CoV-2 virus itself, breaking down the linkages that hold it together. Quercetin and thymoquinone were separately identified by researchers as molecules that may help block that same structure from binding to cells in the first place. It's early-stage, laboratory-level research rather than settled clinical proof, but it's the reasoning behind why these particular compounds were chosen.
David Holden has recommended Spike Detox to several hundred patients over the years as part of ongoing consultations, monitoring changes via live blood analysis. Many notice a difference within a couple of weeks, though response varies from person to person, and it's not a substitute for medical advice from your GP.
One thing Matt's mentioned, on camera and again more recently, is that the same compounds doing this work don't seem to be fussy about which virus they're up against. Coughs, colds and the usual winter bugs respond to much the same mechanism. It's a thread David and Matt are keen to properly explore, likely with a dedicated conversation on that specific application before long. For now, it's a reasonable, evidence-informed reason to think about general immune support through the colder months.

If winter tends to knock you around more than it should, a consultation with David looks at the whole picture, not just the symptom in front of him: nutrition, biochemistry, and how your immune system is actually coping day to day. Book a time and get ahead of the season rather than chasing it.
